Eunchae Kim [Performance]

Wann:

Eunchae Kim (she/they) is an interdisciplinary artist from South Korea, currently based in Stuttgart, Germany. Their practice re-writes and re-contextualizes inherited stories and structures through queer and feminine perspectives.

In the performance It All Started in Front of the Mirror, the artist reflects on how gender and identity are formed and re-formed, weaving personal life stories into a broader exploration of visibility, vulnerability, and becoming. The mirror becomes both stage and witness, where intimate gestures open up space for collective resonance.

-

It all started from the mirror. I wear make up - and with it, a personality, a voice, a new face. Like a drag show. I speak in a way that my character should. And then all of a sudden, it governs more than the way I speak. Now I only want to say what I can say.

I try to speak through the soundtrack — Sometimes it works. Sometimes it fails. And I have no control over that. It depends on who’s watching.
