DESCRIPTION:Ahmed Umar\, a Norwegian-Sudanese visual artist\, draws on his
experience as a queer migrant from the Global South to the Global North
in his art\, creating in his work a dialogue between references to
Sudanese culture and traditions\, and Western culture. An activist for
LGBTQIA+ rights\, he was portrayed by Ibrahim Mursal in the documentary
The Art of Sin as the first openly queer Sudanese person.\n\nDuring his
visit to Stuttgart to open his exhibition at the Kunstmuseum\, we are
delighted to welcome him for an evening of discussions about using art as
a form of cultural and political resistance.\n\nThis event forms part of
the artistic research project 'Desterados'\, which is funded by the
Kulturkessel as part of the ARPR project.\n\nPhoto by Ahmed Ismail.
