  .\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Series @Utopia Kiosk Winter 2026\n\nMix n Wax—An
Intro-Level Workshop Series on how to mix with and without
Vinyl\n\nIt’s Friday night\, you don’t have the energy to go out\,

the beach\, in your own bathroom\, or this winter at Utopia
Kiosk.\n\nThis workshop series is for anyone who loves music and has
always wondered what a DJ actually does. What does it mean to mix music?
And what exactly can you do with it?\nTogether\, we’ll explore this
topic—from genres and history to technology\, equipment\, and how to
put together a set.\nThe goal is to spark joy and curiosity and\, above
all\, to share music with one another and perhaps even discover new
musical genres for one self.\n\nWorkshop 1: Introduction to and Overview

a homework\n- Feedback session\n- How do you actually search for music?
What kinds of platforms are there?\n- FOCUS: Vinyl: What’s so cool
about it? How can I learn this?\n- Where can I practice in Stuttgart?\n-
Some basics on analog vs. digital: What does that even mean?\n- A brief
overview of sound engineering\, studio equipment\, and what I should
ideally have for a small setup (e.g. good headphones)\n\n\nWorkshop 3:
FOCUS on CDJs\, various mixers\, and digital DJing (e.g.\, using just a
laptop) and how to record sets\n- We’ll take a look at CDJs and
controllers from the Pioneer series\n- What is a mixer actually used for?
What kinds are there?\n- I don’t have any equipment and can’t buy
any: what are my options?\n- To wrap things up\, we’ll briefly discuss
how to plan your first set for an audience or a performance at an open
mic event\n\n\n\n\nYou can register for all three workshops or just one
of them.\n\nAbout me:\n\nMary Lilith Fischer studied creative writing and
cinema studies in the U.S. At the university’s conservatory\, she
additionally took classes in electroacoustic music and studio recording.
She also worked as a stagehand for sound engineers.\nAfter graduating\,
she moved to Berlin and opened a project space there called The Workshop
on Forster\, which included\, among other things\, a music studio. The
weekly program featured writing and painting workshops as well as music
production and DJ workshops.\nMary Lilith wouldn’t describe herself as
a DJ\, though she did spin records for a couple of years under the
pseudonym Marlon. What remained\, however\, is a deep love for vinyl\,
ecclectic transitions and the search for the perfect mix.
